RBCT SHIPPED 53.79% MORE COAL IN MARCH 2014
 COALspot.com: South Africa's Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) the single largest export coal terminal in the world, shipped 6.90 million tons of coal in March 2014, jumped by 2,414,213 tons or 53.79% from the previous-month, according to latest data released by Richards Bay Coal Terminal. Richards Bay's shipped 4,045,177 tons of coal in February 2014, the terminal reported.
Year-to-date coal exports at Richards Bay, which has a design capacity of 91 million tons per year, totalled 15,958,637 tonnes a note from terminal said.
In March, southern Asian countries have imported the largest share of Richards Bay exports, taking in 30.2% of the total coal shipped from the terminal. Markets in eastern Asia accounted for 23.8% of the volume. Western Asia imported around 12.1% of volume shipped from RBCT, port’s operating statistics shows.
69.1% of total coal exports from RBCT or approximately 4,769,203 tons of coal shipped to southern eastern Asia, southern Asia, western Asia and eastern Asian countries in March 2014.
Total shipments to Europe represented 27.6% (Western Europe 24.3% & Southern Europe 3.3%) of the total exports. Western Europe imports more coal from RBCT compared to its February imports. However, southern Europe's coal imports from RBCT dropped 50.70 percent month on month.
Stockpiles at the terminal declined to 3.053 million tonnes, compared to 3.375 million tonnes at the end of February 2014.
Sixty one vessels, including 43 Cape size vessels & 8 Panamaxes entered the coal terminal in March, compared to 41 (26 capes, 6 Panamxes & 9 handy size) in the previous month.
South Africa produced high calorific value coal and one of the favouring coal supplier for Europe as well as Asia particularly India.
