THE COAL FREIGHT RATES SEEN SLIGHTLY FIRMING UP THIS WEEK - REDDY
 COALspot.com: The freight market firmed up this week. BDI was up 8.26 pct week on week and index was closed at 1599 points. The Cape index was up 14.53 pct and closed at 3066 points. The Panamax index was a bit soft and was almost at same levels compared to last week closing while the supramax was slightly up by 2.20 pct closed at 1209 points. The Handysize index was almost at same levels or up just 0.45 pct and closed at 674 points.
In the Far East/SE Asia the charter rates on supramax continued to firm and most vessels were rating around $ 16,000 per day passing Singapore. Panamax rates was almost steady or firm compared to last week. Freight rates expected to be fairly steady next week starting from Monday 24 March 2014.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 24,835 per day , Panamax/$ 8,956 per day , Supramax/$ 12,643 per day and Handy size/$ 9,937 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/$ 25,000 per day, Panamax/$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/$ 10,500 per day.
The S8 route continued to remain firm and was up this week by 8.03 pct closed at $ 13,738 per day (last week $ 13,539 per day ) with the freights rates from Indonesia to India being fairly firm.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly down 1.52 pct and closed at $ 106.92 per barrel (last week $ 108.57 per barrel). The bunker prices was steady and closed at 597.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 21st March 2014).
