BDI DOWN ON LOW CAPESIZE ACTIVITY
 COALspot.com: The freight market was slightly soft this week with BDI down by 4.28 pct week on week. The BDI closed at 1,477 points and the cape index was also fell 10.16 pct and closed at 2,677 points. The Panamax index was slightly up this week and closed at 1113 points and the Supramax index was up by 4.60 pct ended at1183 points week on week.
The Handy size index was also increased by 1.21 pct and closed at 671 points.
In the Feast/SE Asia the charter rates for supramax continued to rally up and most of the vessels were rating around $ 17000-18000 per day passing Singapore and $ 15000 per day for delivery South China for trip to India. Panamax rates were almost steady this week and freight rates are also expected to be steady to firm next week.
The average charter rates were at Cape/$ 20,952 per day , Panamax/$ 8,956 per day , Supramax/$ 12,368 per day and Handy size/$ 9,805 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/$ 25,000 per day, Panamax/$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/$ 10,500 per day.
The route S8 route continued with its firm trend and was up by this week by 8.03 pct, closed at $ 13,539 per day (last week $ 12,533 per day – up US$ 1006 ) with the freights rates from Indonesia to India being fairly firm.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels and closed at $ 108.57 per barrel (last week $ 109.00 per barrel). The bunker prices was steady and closed at 599.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 14th March 2014).
