SUPRAMAX : THE FAR EAST/SE ASIA CHARTER RATES FIRMED UP
 COALspot.com: The freight market had a mixed reaction this week with BDI increased by 1.37 pct and closing at 1106 points on Valentine day. The cape index was not in good mood to celebrate valentine day as it was down by 2.14 pct and closed at 1,544 points week ended 14 February 2014.
The panamax index was almost at same levels with some signs of softening and the index closed at 1,311 points. The supramax index was the slightly up after few weeks of continuously dropping , with index up 7.43 pct week on week and closed at 998 points. Handy size index was almost at same levels closing at 671 points.
In the Far east/SE Asia the charter rates for supramax firmed up and vessel were being fixed on DOP basis . The panama vessels also were ballasting towards ECSA and were rating on APS basis.
The supramax freight rates expected to be firm next week , while the panamax freight rates are expected to be stable next week starting 17 February 2014.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 8,367 per day , Panamax/US$ 10,506 per day , Supramax/US$ 10,438 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,689 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 22,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The route S8 route was sharply increased this week by 64 pct and closed at US$ 7,600 per day (last week it was at US$ 4,631 per day ) and the freights rates were strong from Indonesia to India.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 109.08 per barrel (last week US$ 109.08 per barrel). The bunker prices was bit soft and closed at 613.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 14th Feb 2014).
