COAL FREIGHT RATES REMAIN UNDER PRESSURE
 COALspot.com: The BDI is fell 50 pct over last one month which seems to be one of the lowest fall in last few years.
The BDI was down by 11 pct closing at 1,110 points week on week and the cape size continued to drop down by 19.37 pct closing at 1,524 points for the same period. The panamax and supramax was down by about 11 pct closing at 1,137 points and 996 points respectively comapred to last Friday's cloasing. The handy size followed its big sisters trend and index was down by 3.93 pct closing at 684 points.
In the Far east/SE Asia the supramax charter rates continued its north direction and ships were reported fixed as low at US$ 5,000 + Ballast bonus $50,000 delivery Kalimantan for trip to India. The Pananamx seemed to hold fairly well and ships were being around US$ 8,000-9,000 per day for round voyage. Also several Panamax were reported fixed delivery India / Far east region for trip via ECSA at around US$ 14,000-15,000 DOP.
The supramax spot freight rates from Indonesia to EC India around US$ 8.50 pmt. The freight market is expected to be soft for next week and hopefully there will be some recovery by mid February, according to Capt. Reddy of Solym Carriers Singapore.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 8,263 per day , Panamax/US$ 10,663 per day , Supramax/US$ 10,410 per day and Handysize/US$ 9804 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 19,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 1.34 pct and closed at US$ 106.40 per barrel (last week US$ 107.85 per barrel). The bunker prices was steady and closed at 624.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 31st Jan January 2014).
