PORT OF NEWCASTLE SHIPPED SLIGHTLY MORE COAL WEEK ON WEEK
 COALspot.com: In the week ended 20 January 14, power plant and semi-soft coking coal shipments from the port of Newcastle in Queensland, totalled 2.69 million tons. The figure constitutes an 0.89 percent higher compared to the previous week, following a week on week decreased of 18.28 percent recorded in the week ended 13 January 2014.
2.69 million mt for the week ended 20 January were loaded on to 30 ocean going ships (the previous week 32 vessels served), said Newcastle Port Corp in its latest weekly update.
According to port's weekly report, the port has shipped 2,699,952 tons of coal for the week ended 0700 hours 20 January 2014, which was 0.89 per cent higher compared to a week ago loaded quantity. The port’s report indicates that, the port has loaded totalled 7,826,927 MT of coal as of 20 January for this month.
According to operation report posted on port’s website, as of 0700 hours 20 January 2014, there were 2 vessels off the port waiting to load, and 16 vessels with Notified Arrival Time (NAT) allocated and in transit and 8 vessels were in the port of loading.
Anglo, Peabody, Rio Tinto and Xstrata are some of the larger coal exporters to ship coal from Newcastle port.
Average Waiting Time for Vessel
30 coal vessels entered port to load coal during the week, and average waiting time was around 1.94 days (waiting time for loading increased by 14.11% week on week), said NPC in its latest coal shipments report.
According to NPC forecasting, around 12.974 million mt of coal will be shipped in January 2014 and 7,826,927 mt or 60.32% of total forecasted coal already shipped as of 20 January 2014.
