THE FUTURE FOR SUPRAMAX FOR NEXT 3 YEARS TILL 2012 WOULD BE AROUND US$ 13,500 PER DAY - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com ( Singapore): The market moved up sharply this week , which was quite unexpected.
The BDI was up by 557 which is an increase of 18 pct from last week and closed at 3,542 points.
The main reason for BDI increase was again due to Cape index which went up by 23% in last one week and closed at 5,957 points. The Panamax and Supramax went up by 12 - 13% and closed at 3,324 points and 2,051 points respectively.
Handysize saw a marginal increase of 6% and closed at 843 points.The BDI seems will remain between 3,000 - 4,000 points for next few weeks.
On the Supramax ships opening Far East and India were being fixed at around US$ 18, 000 / 19, 000 and US$ 26, 000 / 27, 000 respectively.
This would have the freight rates for coal / coking coal ex Indonesia / Australia and iron ore freight ex. India increase by about 20 - 25% compared to last week. Short period rates for supramax opening Far East was around US$ 17,000 / 17,500 pday.
Panamax opening Far East were seen bing fixed at US$ 20,000 / 21,000 per day. China's import of iron ore continued to be strong and the iron ore import in June 2009 was at 55 million tonnes which is same as in April and May 2009.
It will be interesting to see if whether this volume of import will be maintained which will have a direct effect on the freight market - Vistaar Shipping, Singapore
The congestion at Australian ports continues to be at around 121 vessels waiting off EC Australia. The congestion at Indian ports was easing except for Paradip where congestion continues.
The average charter rates at Cape / US$ 64,714 per day, Panamax / US$ 26,601 per day, Supramax / US$ 21,445 per day and Handysize / US$ 12,084 per day.
The future for 3 years 2010 / 2011 / 2012 is around Cape / US$ 32,000 per day , Panamax / US$ 17,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 13,500 per day and Handysize / 10,500 per day.
The crude prices was up and the brent crude prices increased to US$ 65 per barrel. The bunker prices firmed and the IFO (380 cst) prices ex. Singapore went up to US$ 415 per mt .
