THE FREIGHT MARKET CONTINUE TO REMAIN WEAK NEXT WEEK - SOLYM CARRIERS

COALspot.com: The market has dropped quite a lot as expected due to holidays and probably also the effect of ban of minerals export from Indonesia.
The BDI was down by 31 pct closing at 1,512 points week ended 10.Janaury 2014. The cape size had the biggest drop with the index down by 45 pct and index was closed at 2,101 points. Panamax index was also down by 12 pct and closed at 1,621 points. The supramax index was down 19 pct closing at 1,190 points. Handy size index was also fell 10 pct and closed at 730 points.
The ban of minerals from Indonesia seems to be the major contributing factor for market softening at least in the far east/SE Asia market. It will be interesting to see if the ban is relaxed and export of minerals from Indonesia will be allowed or not. Spot rates on Supramax from Indonesia to EC India were being rated at $ 11.50-12.00 pmt. The freight market is expected to be soft for next 2/3 weeks probably until Chinese New Year.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 17,452 per day , Panamax/US$ 12,921 per day , Supramax/US$ 12,448 per day and handy size/US$ 10,465 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 18000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,000 per day , handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S8 route) dropped down by 39.33 pct after many weeks and closed at US$ 7,772 per day(last week US$ 12,810 per day) and charter rates were soft.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 4.04 pct and closed at US$ 107.25 per barrel (last week US$ 111.77 per barrel). The bunker prices was soft and closed at $ 602.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 10th Jan 2014).
