WEST AUSTRALIA IRON ORE FIXTURES ALSO CONTINUING TO PROVIDE A STEADY FLOW OF BUSINESS FOR CAPES - INTERMODAL
The Dry Bulk market has reversed course this past week, bringing back some of the lost excitement of the past month, as all size segments climbed higher, pushing the BDI to levels last visited at the end of October. After a couple of very slow months for Capes ad Panamaxes, it seems that fixing activity has fired up significantly in both segments, while T/C rates for all sizes have moved higher. This current week has also kicked off positively, creating higher hopes for another mini rally during the last month of the year.
Rates for Capes noted the most significant increases across the board, on the back of strong activity in both basins. With orders ex Brazil and ECSA supporting the Atlantic rates and West Australia iron ore fixtures continuing to provide a steady flow of business, the BCI moved higher, closing off the week north of the 3,000 points level.
Despite the U.S. Thanksgiving holidays, enquiries ex-USG have firmed further to support Panamax rates this past week, as charterers appeared eager to conclude business before the weekend, allowing for owners to increase their ideas. The Pacific basin remained fairly divided, with firm rates for those ships securing Indonesian coal cargoes, while the NoPac market trended sideways.
