SUPRAMAX FREIGHT RATES REMAINED FIRM FROM INDONESIA TO INDIA AND CHINA - SOLYM
COALspot.com: The freight market was fairly steady except for the Supramax in SE Asia region which continued to remain firm. The BDI was down by 1.59 pct closing at 1483 points. The cape index was also up by 0.55 pct closed at 2390 points week ended 22 November 2013. The Panamax was down by 3.33 pct and closed at 1362 points w-w. The Supramax index has been holding especially in SE Asia region and was up by 2.88 pct closed at 1393 points. The handy size index also was holding and was up by 3.55 pct closing at 728 pct.
The Supramax charter rates continued to be firm in the far east/SE Asia and the freight rates remained firm from Indonesia to India and China with owners getting a premium for WC India. The demand for Bauxite and nickel ore shipments from Indonesia remained firm and also there was good demand for ships for coal movement from North China to South China, which is keeping the charter rates firm in this region.
Ships from EC India were being fixed around US$ 13,000 for trip via Indonesia to China. The charter rates expected to remain firm next week too. The panamax charter rates were soft in far east/SE Asia region and expected to remain soft next week. The coal shipments to India was steady this week. The iron ore demand also remained steady and it is expected that the iron ore exports from WC India could begin soon and the market could be firm PG/WC India region in the coming weeks.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 16,554 per day , Panamax/US$ 10,880 per day , Supramax/US$ 14,510 per day and Handy size/US$ 10,282 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 17000 per day, Panamax/US$ 11000 per day, Supramax/US$ 11000 per day , Handy size/US$ 9000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 6.72 pct and closed at US$ 14,920 per day (last week US$ 13,980 per day) and charter rates was firm. The route S7 was at same levels closing at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) , however the charter rates from EC India was firm and ships were being fixed at US$ 13,000 per day for trip to China. The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was steady and up by 2.35 pct and closed at US$ 111.05 per barrel (last week US$ 108.50 per barrel). The bunker prices was soft and closed at 601.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 22nd Nov 2013).
