THE CAPE SIZE INDEX FELL 13.61 PCT W-W
 COALspot.com: The freight market continued to soften on the cape and panamax sectors , however the supramax and handy size remained fairly firm.
The cape size index was down by 13.61 pct W-W and closed at 2,316 points and the Panamax index was down by 14.34 points closing at 1631 points for the same period.
The Supramax index was up by 1.19 pct closing at 1,273 points and the handy size index was up by 3.08 pct closing at 669 points.
The Panamax charter rates were down in the far-east/SE Asia sector with owners rating around US$ 11,500-12,000 for Pacific round voyages. The supramax charter rates were firm and the charter rates for Indonesia to India remained firm. Very few owners were willing to call WC India and most owners preferred to EC India. The demand for ships for Bauxite and Nickel ore cargoes continued to remain firm which was the first preference for many owners. Next week also may see the demand strong and the freight market is expected to be steady.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 17,978 per day , Panamax/US$ 13,031 per day , Supramax/US$ 13,307 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,439 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 17,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 11,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 2.67 pct and closed at US$ 12,935 per day (last week US$ 12,598 per day) and charter rates were firm. The route S7 was at same levels closed at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and was down by 0.95 pct and closed at US$ 105.91 per barrel (last week US$ 106.93 per barrel). The bunker prices was soft and closed at US$ 615.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 1st Nov 2013).
