PANAMAX CHARTER RATES FROM INDONESIA TO INDIA STAY FIRM - SOLYM
COALspot.com: The freight market showed tendency of softness with Cape and Panamax futures and physical soft.
The BDI was down by 12 pct week ended 25 October 2013 and closed at 1671 points. The cape size index was down by 8.06 pct and closed at 2681 points and the Panamax index was down by 7.57 points and ended at 1904 points for the same period. However towards end of the week the futures was up in all segments.
The Supramax and Handy size index was maintaining steady trend and up by about 3 pct closing at 1258 points and 649 points respectively.
The Panamax charter rates were remaining strong for a trip via Australia to India and Indonesia to India and owners were rating around US$ 15,000 per day for such trips.
On the supramax the SE Asia market was quite hot with Supras getting almost US$ 13 -14k per day delivery South China and Singapore delivery about US$ 18 -19k per day. Very few owners were willing to call WC India and most owners preferred EC India. The demand for ships for Bauxite and Nickel ore cargoes were still good which was the first preference for many owners. Expect that strong demand will continue next week and the freight market is also expected to be steady.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 21,363 per day , Panamax/US$ 15,219 per day , Supramax/US$ 13,150 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,182 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/US$ 17,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 11,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up 3.60 pct and closed at US$ 12,598 per day (last week US$ 12,160 per day). The route S7 was closed at same levels compared to last week. The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady to firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was soft and was down by 2.73 pct and closed at US$ 106.93 per barrel (last week US$ 109.94 per barrel). The bunker prices was soft and closed at 609.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 25th Oct 2013).
