DRY BULK FREIGHT MARKET STAYS STEADY IN SPITE CHINESE HOLIDAYS - SOLYM CARRIERS SINGAPORE
 COALspot.com: The freight market continued to remain firm in spite of Chinese holidays.
The BDI closed at 2,084 points on Friday 4 October or up 1.85 % from last week. The cape index was slightly down 0.60 % and closed at 3,943 points for the same period. The Panamax index was also up by 6.33 % and reached 1914 points week ended 4 October 2013. The supramax and handysize indices increased 4.11 % and 2.52 points respectively week on week.
The Panamax and Supramax charter rates were quite firm in Far East and SE Asia. Owners were holding onto their rates and seem to get their expected levels. Charter rates from Indonesia to India was at around $ 12,000 per day delivery South China and were demanding a premium to go to WC India.
"The cape charter rates remained firm due the strong iron ore demands from China", said capt. Reddy of Solym Carriers Singapore. According to Reddy, the freight market is expected to remain firm next week with the Chinese back from Holidays.
The average charter rate was at Cape/$ 37,799 per day , Panamax/$ 15,350 per day , Supramax/$ 11,643 per day and Handy size/$ 8684 per day.
The futures for three years (2014-2016) was at around Cape/$ 18,500 per day, Panamax/$ 11,500 per day, Supramax/$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 5.30 % and closed at US$ 11,344 per day (last week $ 10,773 per day). The route S7 was at same levels and closed at $ 7,875 per day. The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil price was slightly up by 0.76 and closed at $ 109.46 per barrel (last week $ 108.63 per barrel). The bunker prices was up and closed at 618.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 4th Oct 2013).
