BALTIC INDEX UP ON HIGHER CAPESIZE, PANAMAX RATES
 COALspot.com : The freight market continued saw one of the biggest rally last week with Cape Size taking the lead followed by Panamax.
The BDI was up by 19.43 pct and closed at 1352 points on 6 September 2013. Cape index also saw a sharp rise for the week ended 6 September. Cape Index was up 24.79 per cent week on week and closed at 2799 points. The Panamax index saws good gains with the index up 12.68 per cent and closed at 1022 points on Friday. The Supramax and Handysize indices were marginally up and closed at 115 points(up by 2.13 pct) and 537 points (up by 1.13 pct) respectively.
The Cape size charter rates were firm and seems that the demand for iron would be strong at least until end of the year. Cape size Q4 futures, almost at US$ 28000 per day. The Atlantic grain activity is also expected to pick and Panamax charter rates would be firm coming days. The Supramax freight rates from Indonesia to India continued to be firm combined with strong demand for Nickel ore shipments. The Supramax charter rates for Indonesia to India is expected to be firm next week.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 21,793 per day , Panamax/US$ 8,158 per day , Supramax/US$ 10,027 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,688 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2016) were at around Cape/US$ 19,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 11,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 6.40 per cent and closed at US$ 8,964 per day (last week it was at US$ 8425 per day) .The route S7 was at same levels closing at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 1.09 pct and closed at US$ 115.26 per barrel (last week US$ 114.01 per barrel) week on week. The bunker prices firmed up and closed at US$ 602.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 6th August 2013).
