PANAMAX: PACIFIC ROUND PAY AROUND $6,500/D; ATLANTIC ROUND VOYAGE PAY AROUND US$ 10,000/D - FEARNLEYS AS
Handy
The Feast market is quiet, July date cargoes remain unfixed as there is a gap between what owners aiming and charterers willing to pay. There are several cargoes for Indo/India but major owners are still reluctant for this direction due to monsoon season. Current levels around $11K for Indo/India and $9.5K-10K for Indo/China based on ships open Singapore. Vessels have been fixed at high $8K for PG/ECI. Ships open N. China fixed for NOPAC rounds at $8K+300K gbb redel Singapore/Japan range. Period market seems quiet, a 57K dwt vessel open S. China was fixed for 4-7 month at US$ low 9K.
Panamax
The most exiting action over the last week has been in the Atlantic. Here the rates are slowly and steadily pushing upwards as we are witnessing a much healthier summer this year compared to last year. The average trans Atlantic round voyage now pay around US$ 10,000 per day, but we have seen fixtures as high as 13,500 for ships in favorable positions. There is good demand for short period ships in the Atlantic as well and this pays around US$ 10,500 per day. The fronthaul market is pretty quiet, though it seems there are still some volumes of grain left in ecsa to be shipped over the summer. Fronthaul pay around US$ 15,500 per day. The Pacific is struggling to recover from the low levels we have seen out there for quite some time. The pacific round pay only around US$ 6,500 per day. The period market is not very active, though we see some fixtures done for around 1 year period. The rate levels depends very much on vsls specifications and fuel consumption, a nice kamsarmax achieved US$ 8.00.
Capesize
Some confusion as to what direction the market was actually taking in the beginning of the week, however as the week progressed more cargoes appeared and rates slowly improved throughout the week. Main improvement was seen in the Atlantic where ships became scarce. In the pacific the majors have not been very active, resulting in more ships starting to ballast. It will be interesting to see if all these can be absorbed, as of now it seems they will be.
