CAPESIZE: SHOT UP; PANAMAXES: NOT SO LUCK; SUPRAS: SLIGHTLY BETTER; HANDIES: SOFT - INTERMODAL

A renewed Capesize market this month (June 2013) was the cause for much of the overall noteworthy performance of the dry bulk market.
Just as last year, it looks to be the last long breath before the long summer dive and as it currently looks there is no reason why things should be any better this August especially as Chinese growth continues to slow down.
Capesize
The Capesize market shot up this month, as activity picked up considerably this month in the Pacific, while the improving number of iron ore stems in the Atlantic pushed rates to considerably better levels.
Panamax
Panamaxes were not so luck, the closed of the month in the red with the index moving further away from the 1,000 point mark. The lack of main grain activity has been the main shortfall of the market, while sluggish coal demand this month in the Pacific didn’t help either.
Supramax
Supras were able to do slightly better though only marginally with both regions seeing slightly better activity. The period market on the other hand paints a slightly bleaqker picture as 6 month rates continue to dip.
Handysize
Handies were a touch softer overall as the Atlantic lost some of its previous good momentum. The Pacific was still holding positive but was not bullish enough to overturn the drop in the Atlantic.
