CAPESIZE RATES SEEN INCREASING ON HIGH DEMAND - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI continued to rise and saw a big gain on Friday. BDI increased 14 per cent week ended 28 June 2013, closed at 1171 points driven by Cape index, which was up by 18.81 pct on Friday.
Panamax indexes also firm this week (up by 8.63 points) closed at 1,007 points. The supramax and Handy size index marginally up and closed at 954 points (up by 3.36 pct) and 564 points ( up by 2.17 pct) respectively.
The iron ore import remains fairly firm. However, this week rates are slightly less this week compared to last week. In the meantime, the coal import into China was firm this week, which could be also contributed to keep the market firm. Moreover, some analysts pointed out that, the slowing of fleet growth as well helped to keep the market firm. The average charter rates for Cape ended at US$ 15,025 per day, which is up by almost US$ 4000 as compared to last week.
The average charter rate was at Cape/US$ 15,025 per day , Panamax/US$ 8,007 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,973 per day and Handy size/US$ 8,272 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 15,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,000 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 4.63 pct and closed at US$ 9,190 per day (last week US$ 8,783 per day). The route S7 was at same level and closed at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm/steady next week.
The Brent crude oil price was up by 1.24 pct closing at US$ 102.16 per barrel (last week US$ 100.91 per barrel). The bunker prices ended slightly lower at US$ 589.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 28th June 2013).
