HANDY : USD 12000 FOR SPOT COAL INDO/CHINA AND AROUND USD 13000 INDO/ECI - FEARNLEYS
Handy
Atlantic rates hold well. Continent to Far East is worth more than USD 14k daily whilst USG to Far East pay 23/24k a day. On the route from Baltic to SAM owners are asking for USD 6/7k a day, but needless to say just for 1st 35/40 days, if longer duration charterers need to pay around 11.5/12.5k daily. Average of TC routes stays at healthy USD 985 level. There was a little improvement in the Feast market but the prompt requirements got fixed and it became quiet again. Vessels in Singapore were asking around USD 12k for spot coal Indo/China and around USD 13k Indo/ECI. Nickel ore charterers paid around USD 11k for dop S.China RV. There appears to be a large number of vessels open in ECI during the next two weeks while India ingeneral remains inactive. Some vessels open India might try to do a trip via S.Africa to Feast where vessels have been fixed at USD 9k + USD 350 GBB.
Panamax
It is encouraging to see a more active start to the summer season than last year, especially in the Atlantic where the market has been picking up over the last week. We see more trans-Atlantic cargoes coming out and we see more and more charterers having to pay up to cover their requirements. The trans-Atlantic round now pays around USD 10k daily, up around 2k compared to last week. On the contrary the activity and fixing levels in the Pacific basin have stayed low where the round voyage pays around USD 6k daily. The fronthaul market has also continued the positive trend, helped by the East Coast South America that is still shipping grains at a steady and high pace. An ECSA fronthaul now pay around USD 15000 + 500k bb. The period market has been slow lately, 1-year TC is still below 8k, showing us that players fear a bad summer market.
Capesize
This has been another active week with the Baltic 4tc average up USD 3500 in one week. West Australian iron ore has been one of the main drivers with healthy supply, however heavy rain resulted in closed loading facilities beginning of this week. It did not however have a great impact to the overall supply/demand as East coast Australia, Saldanha, and Richards Bay remained active, as well as the Atlantic was taking over as the main driver with a tight tonnage balance. Finally, excess USD 20 PMT was fixed for Tubarao/Qingdao, after months trading in the upper teens. Going towards the end of the week, it still looks positive for this segment.
