BDI CROSSED ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIER THIS WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com : The BDI crossed the psychological barrier of 1000 points after many months and closed at 1,027 points, which were up by 14.11 pct week ended 21 June 2013.
The Cape index saws the biggest gain up by 18.54 per cent closing at 1822 points while the Panamax also up by 7.92 pct closed at 927 points. The Supramax and Handy size was also increased and closed at 923 points (up by 2.55 pct) and 552 points (up by 3.56 pct) respectively.
“ The higher iron ore import keeps Cape size vessel's charter rates firm, and average charter rates were around US$ 11,064 per day on 21 June 2013’, said Capt. Reddy of Vistaar Shipping. He further said, thirty one Cape vessels taken off from the market by STX Pan ocean is also one the potential reason behind the increase in Cape charter rates this week in addition to iron ore demand. The Panamax cargoes were steady and fairly good demand for coal and grain cargoes.
The average charter rate was at Cape/US$ 11,064 per day , Panamax/US$ 7,377 per day , Supramax/US$ 9,654 per day and Handysize/US$ 8,103 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 10,000 per day and Handy size/US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was sharply up by 6.98 pct and closed at US$ 8,783 per day (last week US$ 8,210 per day) .The route S7 route was at same levels and closed at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil price was down by 4.76 pct closing at US$ 100.91 per barrel (last week US$ 105.96 per barrel). The bunker price was at same levels and closed at US$ 600.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex-Singapore on 21st July 2013).
