INDONESIA - INDIA COAL FREIGHT RATES ARE FIRMING UP - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com – The BDI was up by 1.40 pct closed at 888 points week ended 19 April 2013. The Cape index was down by 2.45 pct closing at 1234 point and Panamax index saw the biggest gain by jumped 7.55 pct closed at 1196 points. The supramax closed at same levels as last week closing at 902 points and the handy size was up by 2.47 points closing at 539 points.
The charter rates from Indonesia to India firmed up and also the Panamax vessels from South Africa to India was also firm keeping the charter rates buoyant. The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 4329 per day , Panamax / US$ 9557 per day , Supramax / US$ 9432 per day and Handysize / US$ 7999 per day. The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape / US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 10,000 per day , Handysize / US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 2.92 pct and closed at US$ 8,594 per day (last week US$ 8,350 per day) .The route S7 was at same levels closed at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,875 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady/firm this week.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 3.35 pct closed at US$ 99.65 per barrel (last week US$ 103.11 per barrel). The bunker prices was also lower closing at same levels and closed at US$ 602.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 19th April 2013).
