THE FREIGHT MARKETS EXPECTED TO HOLD FIRM NEXT WEEK - CAPT. REDDY
COALspot.com - This freight market firmed up this week and all sectors were up except for Supramax index.
The BDI was up by 1.62 pct closing at 875 points and the Cape index was up by 4.11 pct closing at 1265 points. The Panamax index was also up by 1.64 pct closing at 1112 points and the supramax index was down by 1.09 pct closing at 902 points. The Handy size index was up by 0.20 pct closing at 526 points.
The charter rates for Indonesia to India and China was soft , however the other sectors were fairly steady/firm. The freight markets expected to hold firm next week also.
The average charter rates was at Cape / US$ 4,701 per day , Panamax US$ 8,892 per day , Supramax / US$ 9,426 per day and Handy size/US$ 7,823 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape / US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 10,000 per day , Handy size / US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 8.00 pct and closed at US$ 8,350 per day (last week US$9,075 per day) .The route S7 was also almost at same levels closing at US$ 7,875 per day (Last week US$ 7,878 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady / firm this week.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels just down by 1.00 pct closing at US$ 103.11 per barrel (last week US$ 104.12 per barrel). The bunker prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 621.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex. Singapore on 12th April 2013).
