COAL FREIGHTS ARE IN FLAT TO WEAK TREND - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - This freight market after several weeks of firming up seemed to lose steam and this week all the indices were down except for handy size index.
The BDI was down by 2.46 pct closing at 910 points on 28 Thursday and the Cape index was down by 2.72 pct closing at 1249 points. The panamax index down by 2.65 pct closing at 1176 points and the Supramax index down by 3.47 pct closing at 944 points.
The Handysize index was slightly up by 0.92 pct closing at 547 points.
With the iron ore prices bottoming out, the iron ore import is expected to pick with many mills want to rebuild their stocks. The grain cargoes from South America was keeping the Panamax freight rates firm. The freight rates are expected to be steady next week.
The ship for coal cargoes seemed much lower this week, which seems to be the reason for Panamax / Supramax market coming off. There were very few fixtures reported this week for coal shipments. Next week the freight is expect to be flat to soft.
The average charter rates was at Cape / US$ 4,678 per day , Panamax / US$ 9,412 per day , Supramax / US$ 9,866 per day and Handy size / US$ 8,111 per day.The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape / US$ 14,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 10,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 10,000 per day , Handy size / US$ 9,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 3.11 pct and closed at US$ 10,275 per day (last week US$10,605 per day) .The route S7 was also down by 1.09 pct closing at US$ 8,160 per day (Last week US$ 8,250 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 2.19 pct closing at US$ 110.02 per barrel (last week US$ 107.66 per barrel). The bunker prices was also slightly up and closed at US$ 636.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 28th March 2013).
