STEEL DEMAND WILL HELP TO PUSH UP FREIGHT RATES - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - This freight market has been fairly steady week ended 15 February 2013.
The BDI was slightly up by 0.67 pct closing at 753 points while the cape index was slightly down by 1.85 pct closing at 1434 points. The panamax index saw a big jump which was increased by 15.08 points closed at 832 points. The supramax index was almost at same levels closed at 672 points (up by 0.45 points) and the handy size was down closed at 412 points (down by 2.14 pct) W/E 16 February 2013.
The market seemed to have remained fairly steady this week with the Chinese New year Holidays. With expected increased steel demand, the freight market is expected to be steady/firm next few weeks.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 6750 per day , Panamax/$ 6626 per day , Supramax/$ 7028 per day and Handy size/$ 6138 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) were at around Cape/$ 13500 per day, Panamax/$ 8500 per day, Supramax/$ 9250 per day , Handy size/$ 8000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was soft and down by 0.36 pct closed at $ 5722 per day (last week $ 5743 per day) on 16 February 2013 .The route S7 was slightly up by 0.58 pct and closed at $ 3956 per day (Last week $ 3933 per day) for the same period. The freight market in this sector is expected to be steady/soft next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 3.07 pct and closed at $ 117.66 per barrel (last week $ 118.90 per barrel). The bunker prices was at same levels as last week closed at $ 660.50 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 15th Feb 2013).
