FREIGHT MARKET MAY REBOUND AFTER CHINESE NEW YEAR - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market was soft and all the indices were down by around 5-7 pct this week.
The BDI was down 6.01 pct closing at 750 points. The Cape index was also down by 4.34 pct closing at 1454 points . The panamax and supramax indices also fell and closed at 664 points ( down by 7.52 pct) and 682 points ( down by 4.08 pct) respectively. The handy size index also follows her big sisters down by 5.47 pct closed at 449 points.
The freight rates from Indonesia to India was soft and ships were being fixed at around US$ 7500 + ballast bonus US$ 75000 arrival Kalimantan.
The Iron ore demand seems to be good and the prices holding up. Also the coal demand seems to have picked and the prices are firming up. It appears the freight market could stabilize and firm up after Chinese New year. Hope, year of snake will move market to north direction.
The average charter rates were at Cape/$ 7329 per day , Panamax/$ 5257 per day , Supramax/$ 7135 per day and Handy size/$ 6707 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/$ 13500 per day, Panamax/$ 8500 per day, Supramax/$ 9250 per day and Handy size/$ 8000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was soft and was down by 5.25 pct closing at $ 5925 per day(last week $ 6253 per day) .The route S7 was also down by 1.24 pct closing at $ 3988 per day (Last week $ 4038 per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be flat/soft this week.
The congestion in EC Australia was at 85 vessels this week (last week 72 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/3, DBCT/17, Gladstone/32, Abbot Point/6, New Castle/20, Port Kembla/5 vessels.
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 3.07 pct and closed at $ 116.76 per barrel (last week $ 113.28 per barrel). The bunker prices was up by almost $ 20 pmt and closed at $ 648.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 1st Feb 2013).
