S7 & S8 ROUTE FREIGHT TREND IS EXPECTED TO BE FLAT TO SOFT THIS WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market was fairly steady with all the indices BDI up by 9.21 pct closing at 837 points. The Cape index was also sharply up by 17.41 pct closed at 1605 points. However the Panamax and supramax indices were closed lower at 740 points (down by 4.14 pct) and 730 points (down by 0.81 pct) respectively. The handy size index was up by 4.91 pct closed at 470 points.
The demand for iron ore continued to be firm which was the reason for increase in cape index. However expect that the market could soften coming days as Chinese New Year approaching.
The freight rates from Indonesia to India was soft and ships were being fixed at around US$ 8000 + ballast bonus US$ 110000 arrival Kalimantan.
The average charter rates were at Cape/US$ 8990 Per day , Panamax/US$ 5860 Per day , Supramax/US$ 7635 Per day and Handysize/US$ 7012 Per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 13500 Per day, Panamax/US$ 8500 Per day, Supramax/US$ 9500 Per day , Handysize/US$ 8000 Per day.
The supramax index in the Far East (S8 route) was soft and down by 10.82 pct closing at US$ 6965 Per day(last week it was at US$ 7810 Per day) .The route S7 was also down by 8.78 pct closing at US$ 4395 Per day (Last week US$ 4818 Per day) . The freight market in this sector is expected to be flat to soft this week.
The congestion in EC Australia was at 65 vessels this week (last week 69 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint/4, DBCT/15, Gladstone/24, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/19, Port Kembla/3 vessels.
The brent crude oil prices was slightly up and closed at US$ 111.76 per barrel (last week US$ 110.57 per barrel). The bunker prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 633.00 pmt (IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 18th Jan 2013).
