FALL IN CAPE AND PANAMAX RATES DRAG BDI INDEX - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market further softened this week closing at 700 points (down by 10.71 pct). The cape index continued to fall and was down by 14.72 pct closing at 1,228 points. The panamax also continued to fall and was down by15.37 pct closing at 710 points . The supramax and handy size index were fairly steady at 732 points (down by 1.74 pct) and 446 points (up by 0.68 pct) respectively.
The short period rates for supramax fixed around $ 8500 per day, while the Panamax were fixed around US$ 7500 per day for short period. Supramax freight rates from Indonesia to India was firm and ships were reported fixed delivery South China at around US$ 10000 per day for trip to India.
The average charter rates at Cape/US$ 4814 per day , Panamax/US$ 5622 per day , Supra max/US$ 7654 per day and Handysize/US$ 6587 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 13500 per day, Panamax/US$ 9000 per day, Supra max/US$ 9500 per day , Handy size/US$ 8000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up by 1.61 pct and closed at US$ 9445 per day (last week US$ 9295 per day). The route S7 was up by 3.39 pct closed at US$ 5653 per day (last week US$ 5468 per day) . The freight market is expected to be steady this week.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 88 vessels this week (last week 83 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/4, DBCT/19, Gladstone/17, Abbot Point/7, New Castle/26, Port Kembla/6 vessels.
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 0.94 pct and closed at US$ 109.10 per barrel (last week US$ 108.15 per barrel). The bunker prices closed higher at US$ 605.50 (last week US$ 600.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 21 Dec 2012.
