FREIGHT TREND SOFTENED THIS WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market further softened this week and closed at 784 points (down by 18.84 pct). The cape index had the biggest fall which was down by 21.40 pct closed at 1,440 points. The panamax also continued to fall and was down by10.36 percent closed at 839 points . The supramax and handy size indices also fell slightly and closed at 745 points (down by 1.97 pct) and 443 points (down by 0.89 pct) respectively.
The short period rates for supramax was firm this week fixed around US$ 9500 per day, while the Panamax was fixed around US$ 8000 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape / US$ 6,633 per day , Panamax / US$ 6,660 per day, Supramax / US$ 7,785 per day and Handy size / US$ 6,543 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) was at around Cape / US$ 13,500 per day, Panamax / US$ 9,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 9,500 per day , Handy size / US$ 8,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 4.86 percent and closed at US$ 9,295 per day (last week US$ 9770 per day). The route S7 was also down by 4.49 percent closed at US$ 5,468 per day (last week US$ 5,725 per day) . The freight market is expected to be steady this week.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 79 vessels this week (last week 67 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/4, DBCT/17, Gladstone/17, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/33, Port Kembla/2 vessels.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 3.59 pct and closed at US$ 108.15 per barrel (last week US$ 107.16 per barrel). The bunker prices closed higher at US$ 600.00 (last week US$ 595.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex.Singapore on 14th Dec 2012.
