HANDY : WCI-CHINA RATES AROUND $ 6000 AND ECI-CHINA AROUND $ 4000 - FEARNLEYS
 Handy
Atlantic market remained unchanged. Rates from USG to Feast were around USD 18k and Black Sea to Feast about USD 10k. USG-Skaw-Passero rates are around USD 12k. Pacific market getting softer with less cargoes seen in market. For Indo-India, large eco Supra now fixed at USD 11k for delivery Singapore. Nopac also fixed bss APS at USD 7000 + BB USD 325k. Indian iron ore market remains quiet with less activity on WCI & ECI. WCI-China rates around USD 6000 and ECI-China around USD 4000. RBCT rv fixed at APS USD 8500 + BB USD 300k. Red Sea fertilisers to India are mid/ high teens. Not much activity seen on short period and rates around USD 9500 for large Supra.
Panamax
This week we see less activity in the Panamax market. In the Atlantic basin the market has been weaker but so far fearly balanced. Ships still fetch around USD 9-10k for round voyages and about the same if they commit to slightly longer duration by fixing 2/3 laden legs redelivery Atlantic. The forward curve is on the weak note as owners that wish to fix forward positions need to accept a discount. The fronthaul market remains pretty inactive, but we have seen ships fixing around USD 14-16k depending on duration. In the Pacific the market is dropping. Here we see more and more spot ships struggling to find employment while rates are down to around 6000 dollars per day for Pacific rounds. Owners can now get better money for periods than for short trips as 1 year TC now pays around USD 7500.
Capesize
The negative trend continues and accelerates as X-mas doldrums appear to be setting in early. Down 45% w-o-w, spot levels for Capes now barely cover opex at USD 7500/day. As number of ballasters keeps growing and in particular iron ore trades keep reflecting slowing Chinese growth, no immediate stabilization or improvement can be expected. FFAs, and consequently period rates, have dropped to such an extent – theoretical consensus being around USD 9k for 12 months - that focus is shifting towards index-linked structures.
