TIGHT SUPPLY, DEMAND PUSH INDO-INDIA SUPRAMAX FREIGHT RATES HIGHER - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market was mixed this week as cape and Panamax indices are closing softer.
The BDI was down 0.37 pct closing at 1,086 points. The cape size index was down by 3.89 pct closed at 2,199 points. The panamax index was also fell by 3.26 pct closed at 980 points. However, the Supramax and Handy size indices were up closing at 766 points (up by 5.80 pct) and 448 points (up by 3.94 pct ) respectively.
The demand for vessels were good and availability of vessels in Fare East / SE Asia were also tight which kept the freight market up this week. Supramax freight from Indonesia to India was firm and the freight rates are expected to be steady to firm next week.
The average charter rates for cape size vessel around US$ 15,869 per day , Panamax around US$ 7,815 per day , Supramax US$ 8,005 per day and Handy size at US$ 6,605 per day.
The futures for three years (2013-2015) were at around US$ 14,000 per day for cape size, Panamax at US$ 9,500, Supramax at US$ 9,500 per day and Handy size at US$ 8,000 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was up sharply and closed at US$ 10,110 per day (last week it was at US$ 8,939 per day). The route S7 also up sharply and closed at US$ 5,810 per day (last week US$ 5,192 per day) .
Quite a lot of ships fixed for Indonesia with delivery India which indicates that the availability of ships was tight in SE Asia. Both routes likely to be firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 67 vessels this week (last week 44 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/1, DBCT/17, Gladstone/13, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/32, Port Kembla/2 vessels.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 111.15 per barrel (last week US$ 111.39 per barrel). The bunker prices closed higher at US$ 600.50 (last week US$ 609.50 pmt) for IFO 380 CST ex. Singapore on 30th Nov 2012.
