HANDY : IRON ORE WAS QUIET AND RATES FROM INDIA TO CHINA AROUND USD 5500

The Atlantic was weak with more supply of ships. Rates from Continent/ Feast at USD 9000 and from USG/China at USD 15k. The Pacific market remained stable with fair amount of coal and nickel ore cargoes. Indo-India rounds fixed bss USD 11k for dely Singapore and redely ECI. Iron ore was quiet and rates from India to China around USD 5500. RBCT rounds fixed at USD 8k + BB USD 200k. Short period rates were around USD 9k.
Panamax
It was a slow start to the week with Singapore and India away for Diwali holidays. The usual steady volume of Indonesian coal cargos is still active holding the Eastern Hemisphere market relatively strong. Seasonal Q4 upturn only marginal in the East and negative in the Atlantic. TA´s pending around USD 3-3500 on T/C but lower on voyage terms. Ships open Continent wanting trip Feast fetching around USD 13-14k (but the number of ships looking for same compared to cargos going that direction keeps the rates somewhat stable). In the Pacific Indo rounds being fixed with a premium if going to India and good positions able to secure above 8k for same. Pacific rounds otherwise in the mid/upper 7´s. Period activity limited with levels for short around 7-7500 this week.
Capesize
Sentiment improved on the back of last week, with paper bought heavily and FH rates climbing back toward USD 23 pmt. Talk of better cargo volumes coming out of the Atlantic was backed up on Monday with a 150k/10 Columbia/Rotterdam fixture above index at USD 12. In the Pacific, West Australia rates climbed back with USD 9.70 done for November dates. There was little activity in the Pacific on Tuesday as Singapore was off on public holiday, same picked up dramatically the following day. The positive short term sentiment was reflected in the paper market as near dated Nov/ Dec contracts closed up on Tuesday, slightly above spot at around USD 16, 750. With the present volatility in the market, it is difficult to predict what tomorrow will be priced at - consequent period activity is very limited, with last representative fixture being 180kdwt/blt 2011 done for 10-18 months at USD 12,600 basis delivery China prompt.
