COAL FREIGHT RATES FALL FLAT TO SOFT ON OVERSUPPLY, WEAK DEMAND - VISTAAR SINGAPROE
 COALspot.com - The BDI continued its fall 10th August.
This week all segments were down including BDI down by 9.15 pct closing at 774 points .The cape index was also down by 2.58 pct closing at 1169 points. The biggest drop was in Panamax and Supramax sector which was down by almost 11 pct closing at 814 points and 886 points respectively. The handy size index was also down by 3.80 pct closing at 531 points.
The Supramax freight market was soft from Indonesia to India and vessels were trading around US$ 6000 delivery South China for trip to India. Short Period charter rates for Supramax and Panamax was around US$ 9000 per day.
The dry shipping market is expected to soft at least for the next couple of weeks.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 3852 per day , Panamax/US$ 6483 per day , Supramax/US$ 9264 per day and Handy size/US$ 7699 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 14000 per day, Panamax/US$ 10500 per day, Supramax/US$ 10500 per day , Handy size/US$ 8500 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 7.20 pct and closed at US$ 6635 per day (last week US$ 7150 per day) and S7 route was down by 5.55 pct and closed at US$ 5330 per day (last week US$ 5643 per day) . Both routes likely to be soft next week.
The congestion in EC Australia was at 78 vessels this week (last week 74 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/1, DBCT/15, Gladstone/6, Abbot Point/4, New Castle/44, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 47 vessels (last week 44 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 4.19 pct closing at US$ 113.45 per barrel (last week US$ 108.89 per barrel). The bunker prices were slightly up closing at US$ 657.50 (last week US$ 632.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 10th August 2102.
