DRY BULK FREIGHT MARKET TO STAY WEAK NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The freight market continued to soften further in all segments.
The BDI was down by 8.68 pct closing at 852 points. The cape index was slightly down by 0.7 pct closing at 1200 points. The Panamax index saw the biggest decline down by 11.73 pct closing at 910 points. The supramax and handy size index was also down closing at 995 points (down by 6.92 pct) and 552 points (down by 8.30 points) respectively.
The current market trend is expected to be continued next week too.
The Supramax freight market was soft from Indonesia to India and vessels were trading around US$ 7,500 per day delivery South China for trip to India. Short Period charter rates for Supramax was around US$ 10,000 per day and for panamax was around $ 9,000 per day. The freight rates are expected to be flat to soft next week.
The Euro zone crisis continues to be of concern with Italy and Spain , the euro zone’s fourth and third largest economies bring intense worries on the ongoing sovereign debt crisis.
The iron ore prices also have declined to 30 month low , which indicates that the demand is slow and reports suggest that many of the steel mills are reducing their production capacity due to weak demand. The stock pile in Chinese ports is estimated at around 97 million tons.
The dry shipping market is expected to soft at least for the next couple of weeks.
The average charter rates were at Cape/$ 4,346 per day , Panamax/$ 7,258 per day , Supramax/$ 10,399 per day and Handy size /$ 8,034 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/$ 14,500 per day, Panamax/$ 10,500 per day, Supramax/$ 10,500 per day , Handy size/$ 8,750 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down by 6.18 pct and closed at $ 7,150 per day, $ 471 cheaper than last week and S7 route was down by 6.59 pct and closed at $ 5,643 per day fell $ 398 compared to last week. Both routes are likely to be soft next week.
The congestion in EC Australia was at 74 vessels this week (last week 75 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/18, Gladstone/9, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/41, Port Kembla/2 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 44 vessels (last week 43 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly up by 2.14 pct closing at $ 108.89 per barrel (last week $ 106.61 per barrel). The bunker prices were slightly up closing at $ 632.50 (last week $ 629.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 3rd August 2102.
