THE FREIGHT MARKET EXPECTED TO BE STEADY NEXT WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI continued to go up with the support of Panamax/Supramax and was up by 8.34 pct closing at 1,156 points.
The cape index was slightly down by 2.22 pct closing at 1,499 points. The Panamax index kept the momentum and was up by 16.88 pct closing at 1,738 points. The supramax and handysize index was also up closing at 1,102 points (up by 8.04 pct) and 589 points (up by 4.80 pct).
The spot fixture rates for Supramax in SE Asia was steady with vessels delivery South China was around reported fixed around US$ 11,500-12,000 per day. The short period rates for supramax around US$ 12,000 per day.
The market expected to be steady next week. However the iron prices have been dropping last few days which could mean that the iron ore demand by China may be softening.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 6,478 per day , Panamax/US$ 13,877 per day , Supramax/US$ 14,789 per day and Handy size/US$ 11,232 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 11,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 9,500 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S8 route) was down slightly 4.95 pct and closed at US$ 11,526 per day (last week it was at US$ 12,127 per day) and S7 route was slightly up by 0.89 pct and closed at US$ 9,691 per day (last week was US$ 9,605 per day). Both routes likely to be firm next week.
The Brent crude oil prices was down by slightly up by 0.61 pct closing at US$ 119.55 per barrel(last week US$ 118.82 per barrel) and bunkers prices also up little closing at US$ 721.50 pmt (last week US$ 718.00 pmt)for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 27th April 2012.
