THE FREIGHT MARKET EXPECTED TO REMAIN FIRM NEXT WEEK - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI has broken the psychological barrier of 1000 points and closed at 1067 points.
The cape index was slightly down by 2.48 pct closing at 1,533 points. The biggest gain was in Panamax segment which was up by 28.41 pct closing at 1,487 points. The Supramax index also gained reasonably up by 8.97 pct closing at 1,020 points. The handy size index was up by 4.07 pct closing at 562 points.
The spot fixture rates for Supramax in SE Asia was firm last week. Vessels delivery South China was around reported fixed around $ 13,000 per day. The market expected to remain firm next week too.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 6,598 per day , Panamax/$ 11,882 per day , Supramax/$ 10,667 per day and Handy size/$ 8,482 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/$ 11,500 per day, Supramax/$ 11,500 per day , Handy size/$ 9,500 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S8 route) was up by 12.62 pct and closed at $ 12,127 per day (last week it was at $ 10768 per day) and S7 route was also down by 7.15 pct and closed at $ 9,605 per day (last week it was at $ 8,964 per day) . Both routes likely to be firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia decreased to 99 vessels this week compared to last week, 111 vessels. The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint/12, DBCT/14, Gladstone/23, Abbot Point/4, New Castle/35, Port Kembla/9 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at35 vessels (last week 59).
The Brent crude oil prices was down by slightly down by 2 pct closing at $ 118.82 per barrel (last week $ 121.34 per barrel) and bunkers prices also softened closing at $ 718.00 pmt (last week $ 727.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex.Singapore on 20th April 2012.
