SRI LANKA IMPORTS 152,555 MT OF INDONESIAN COAL IN FEBRUARY
 COALspot.com: Indonesia, the world largest coal exporter, shipped 27.126* million tons of coal in February 2012, compared to 28.21* million tons in January 2012. The February coal exports down by 3.86 percent from January exports.
China was the largest importer of Indonesian coal in February, followed by India. China has imported 6.648* million tons of coal and India's imports at 6.555* million tons last month.
Indonesia's coal exports to China has dropped 3.62 percent in February to 6.64* million tons but exports to India increased 7.37 percent.. India has imported 6.55* million tons in February, compared to 6.10* million tons in January 2012.
79.97 percent of total exports of Indonesian coal in February goes to top five importers of Indonesian coal such as China, India, South Korea, Japan and Taiwan.
“Indian inquiries are still in the market," said an international coal trader who are operating in Indonesia.
Indian & Chinese buyers were dominating Indonesian coal market and it is seems that, the trend will continue for next couple of years as India & China might import more coal in coming years to feed their power plants. However, spot Indonesian thermal coal prices were flat this week. Instead of reasonably high demand for Indonesian coal, the prices of Indonesian coal was falling last two weeks.
FOB offers for Kalimantan 5,000 kcal/kg GAR coal was at US$73 this week, while the market for 5,800 kcal/kg GAR coal was at US$93/mt, trader said. However, South Kalimantan 3800 kcal/kg GAR coal was offered little above mid US$ 40. The Indonesian coal is still attractive for China and India.
Sri Lanka, the new comer in thermal coal power industry has imported 152,555* mt of Indonesian coal in February.
