SE ASIA WAS FIRM FOR TRIPS TO INDIA AND CHINA - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - This week saw another upward trend with all indices up and generally market was firm.
The BDI was up by 7.38 pct closing at 771 points and Cape index was marginally up by 1.40 pct closing at 1525 points. The Panamax index was only slightly up by 1 pct closing at 844 points and lost the momentum which was in the previous week. The supramax index was up by 12.54 pct closing at 745 points and Handy size was up by 10.63 pct closing at 437 points.
The spot fixture rates for Supramax in SE Asia was firm for trips to India and China. Some ships were reported fixed from EC India for trip via Indonesia to India which clearly shows that the ships far east were rating higher and the shortage of tonnage also continued. Vessel delivery SE Asia for trip to India was remained around US$ 13,000-14,000 per day and delivery South China was reported around US$ 9,500-10,000 per day.
It seems the freight rates for Indonesia to India will continue to remain firm for next 2 to 3 weeks.
The Short period rates for Supramax delivery Feast/Se Asia was around US$ 11,000-12,000 per day and for Panamax was around US$ 10,000-11,000 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 5979 per day , Panamax/US$ 6,786 per day , Supramax/US$ 7,786 per day and Handysize/US$ 6,630 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2015) was at around Cape/US$ 17,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 11,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 8,500 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 8.13 pct and closed at US$ 8,180 per day (last week it was at US$ 7,565 per day) and S7 route was up by 8.32 pct and closed at US$ 7.159 per day (last week was US$ 6,609 per day) . S6 and S7 route likely to be firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia decreased to 85 vessels this week(last week 91). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/16, Gladstone/20, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/37, Port Kembla/9 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 31 vessels (last week 49).
The Brent crude oil prices was slightly down by 1.14 pct closing at 123.84 per barrel(last week 125.27 per barrel) and bunkers prices closed at US$ 745.00 pmt (last week US$ 741.00 pmt)for IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 2nd March 2012.
