THE FREIGHT RATES FOR INDONESIA TO INDIA IS LIKELY TO BE FIRM FOR NEXT 2/3 WEEKS - VISTAAR
COALspot.com – “There was not much change in the BDI and other indices this week except for the Panamax which was down by 11.91 pct”, capt. Reddy Said.
He further said, “however the market in SE Asia for Supramax was firm with spot charter rates firm and the reason could be shortage of tonnage and excess demand”.
The BDI was up only by 1 point closing at 718 points and the Cape index was up 43 points closing at 1504 points. The Panamax index continued to fall and was down by 113 points closing at 836 points. The supramax index was marginally up by 4 points closing at 662 points and the Handy size index was up by 13 pct closing at 395 points.
The spot fixture rates for Supramax in SE Asia was firm for trips to India and China. The reason seems to be lack of tonnage and need to watch if the momentum will be maintained over next few weeks. Vessel delivery SE Asia for trip to India was reported around US$ 13,000 per day and delivery South China was reported around US$ 9,000-9,500 per day. The bunkers Prices also was firm with Brent crude touching US$ 125 per barrel. It seems the freight rates for Indonesia to India is likely to be firm for next 2/3 weeks.
The Chinese iron ores prices have gone up showing increased demand and will have to watch whether the prices would hold. However the stock position still remains high at around 98 mill tons.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 5699 per day , Panamax/ US$ 6,705 per day , Supramax/ US$ 6,920 per day and Handy size/ US$ 5,980 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2014) was at around Cape/ US$ 16,500 per day, Panamax/ US$ 11,500 per day, Supramax/ US$ 11,000 per day , Handy size/ US$ 8,500 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 10.28 pct and closed at US$ 7,565 per day (last week US$ 6,860 per day) and S7 route was up by 8.66 pct and closed at US$ 6,609 per day (last week US$ 6,082 per day) . S6 and S7 route likely to be firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 91 vessels this week(last week 101). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/3, DBCT/16, Gladstone/16, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/42, Port Kembla/12 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 49 vessels (last week 69).
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 4.76 pct closing at 125.27 per barrel(last week US$ 119.58 per barrel) and bunkers prices closed at US$ 741.00 pmt (last week US$ 738.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 24th Feb 2012.
