FREIGHT MARKET DROPPED TO THE LOWEST LEVEL SINCE 2008
 COALspot.com - "The markets continued to soften almost reaching 2008 levels breaking the 1,000 point mark", said Capt. Reddy of Vistaar Shipping Singapore. The BDI dropped further by 18 pct closing at 862 points and the cape index was down by 9.81 pct closing at 1554 points.
The biggest drop was in the Panamax and Supramax sector which was down by 19.30 pct closing at 1,020 points and 16.48 pct closing at 807 points. The handysize index also dropped by 9 pct this week closing at 485 points.
Reddy furher said, "the markets seems has almost touched the lowest levels and likely to go up from here. The futures have already started to go up during later part of the week and looks after the Chinese New year holidays the markets likely to firm up."
Supramax delivery South China for trips via Indonesia were reported around US$ 6,000 per day. Short Period charter rates for Panamax and supramax was down to around US$ 8,000 per day.
The bunker prices continued to remain firm and was at US$ 740.00 pmt for IFO 380 cst ex.Singapore on 20th Jan 2012.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 6,688 per day , Panamax/S 8,131 per day, Supramax/$ 8,441 per day and Handysize/$ 7,115 per day.
The futures for three years (2012-2014) was at around Cape/$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/$ 12,000 per day , Handysize/$ 9,500 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S6 route) closed at $ 5,728 per day (last week $ 6245 pday) dropped $ 517 and S7 route closed at $ 6082 pday (last week $ 6,525 per day) dropped $ 443/day . S6 and S7 route likely to remain steady/firm next week.
The congestion in EC Australia decreased to 85 vessels this week(last week 94). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint/5, DBCT/19, Gladstone/18, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/53, Port Kembla/7 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 53 vessels (last week 33).
The brent crude oil prices closed at 110.25 per barrel and bunkers prices closed at $ 740.00 pmt for IFO 380 cst ex.Singapore on 20th Jan 2012.
