THE PANAMAX INDEX ENDED ON POSITIVE DIRECTION - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI and Cape index continued the upward trend this week also with BDI up by 3.00 pct closing at 1,922 points and Cape index up by 8.45 pct closing at 3697 points.
The panamax index also ended on positive slightly up by 0.70 pct closing at 1713 points. The Supramax index and handy size index remained soft and closing was down by 5.18 pct closing at 1230 points and 3.26 pct respectively closing at 602 points respectively.
Supramax delivery N. China for trips via Indonesia were reported around US$ 7,000 per day. Short Period charter rates for Panamax and Supramax was around US$ 12,000 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 32,617 per day , Panamax/US$ 13,682 per day , Supramax/US$ 12,857 per day and Handy size/US$ 8,597 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was down by 12.50 pct and closed at US$ 6,624 per day (last week US$ 7570 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was also down by 2.95 pct and closed at US$ 6,800 per day (last week US$ 7007 per day). The S6 and S7 route likely to remain soft next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 17,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 12,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 12,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia decreased to 117 vessels this week (last week 122 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/5, DBCT/14, Gladstone/16, Abbot Point/2, New Castle/68, Port Kembla/9 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting slightly increased to 27 vessels (last week 25 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices was down by 1.22 pct and closed at US$ 108.88 per barrel (last week US$ 110.10 per barrel). Bunker prices was also soft and closed at US$ 650.50 pmt (last week US$ 681.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex. Singapore on 9th Dec 2011.
