THE SHORT-PERIOD RATES FOR PANAMAX REMAINED FIRM - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - "The market seemed to slow down a bit this week, and all sectors were down by about One to five percent", said Capt. Reddy, director of Vistaar shipping, Singapore.
The BDI was down by 0.92 pct and closed at 2,153 points, and Cape index was down by only 0.58 pct and closed at 3,566 points. The Panamax and Supramax index closed at 2,026 points(down by 2.78 pct) and 1,533 points (down by 3.83 pct) respectively. The biggest drop was in handysize which was down by about 6 pct and closed at 774 points.
Accordign to Vistaar Shipping, the short-period rates for Panamax remained firm at around US$ 15,000 per day. However, no short-period candidates reported on Supramax. The freight rate from Indonesia to India softened slightly.
The average charter rate was at Cape/US$ 27,876 per day , Panamax/US$ 15,326 per day , Supramax/US$ 16,028 per day and Handysize/US$ 11,270 per day.
The supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was down by 1.90 pct and closed at US$ 13,474 per day (last week US$ 13,736 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was also down by 1.28 pct and closed at US$ 11,015 per day (last week US$ 11,158 per day). The S6 and S7 likely to be steady/soft.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 16,500 per day, Panamax/US$ 14,000 per day, Supramax/US$ 14,000 per day , Handysize/US$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 92 vessels this week (last week 79 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Haypoint/3, DBCT/22, Gladstone/15, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/43, Port Kembla/8 vessels. On the WC Australia iron, ore vessels waiting was at 44 vessels (last week 40 vessels).
The Brent crude oil price was up by 2.98 pct and closed at US$ 109.75 per barrel (last week US$ 112.73 per barrel). Bunker prices almost remained at same levels and closed US$ 674.50 pmt (last week US$ 680.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex-Singapore on 14th Oct 2011.
