BUNKER PRICES AND DEMANDS PUSHED FREIGHT RATES UP - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The market continued to be firm with all segments moving up with biggest gain in Handy size segment up by 15 pct. The BDI was up by 8.65 pct and closed at 2,173 points. The cape index was up by 11.46 pct closing at 3,587 points and Panamax index was up by 8.93 pct and closing at 2,084 points. The Supramax index was up only 3.98 pct closing at 1,594 points and Handy size was up by 15.12 pct closing at 822 points.
"The short period rates for Supramax and Panamax remained firm", said Capt. Reddy. Director Vistaar Shipping and experienced ship operator in Singapore . The freight rate from Indonesia to India remained firm with charter rates for vessels delivery South China around $ 15,000-15,500 per day, he further said.
The Panamax short period rates were reported around $ 14,500-15,000 per day.
The bunker prices was also up sharply with crude up by 6 pct and bunker prices was up by $ 40 pmt. This added to further increase in freight rates.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 31329 per day , Panamax/$ 16702 per day , Supramax/$ 16671 per day and Handy size/$ 11911 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 1.94 pct and closed at $ 13,736 per day (last week $ 13,474 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was up by 1.30 pct and closed at $ 11158 per day (last week $ 11015 per day). The S6 and S& route likely to firm next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 16500 per day, Panamax/$ 14000 per day, Supramax/$ 14,000 per day , Handy size/$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 79 vessels this week (last week 78 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/18, Gladstone/16, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/36, Port Kembla/6 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 40 vessels (last week 44 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices was up by 6.53 pct and closed at $ 112.73 per barrel (last week $ 105.82 per barrel). Bunker prices almost remained at same levels and closed $ 680.00 pmt (last week $ 642.50 pmt) for IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 14th Oct 2011.
