INDIAN COAL IMPORTS PICKED UP - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - The BDI dropped by 1 pct and Cape index dropped by 6 pct closing at 1,899 points and 3,136 points respectively. However all other segments went up with Panamax up by 5 pct and Supramax up by 1.35 pct. The biggest gain was in the handy size which was up by 7.71 pct and closing at 740 points.
The short period rates remained firm and Supramax vessels reported fixed around $ 14,500 per day. The charter rates for Indonesia to India continued to be firm with charter rates for vessels delivery South China around $ 15,000 per day. The Panamax short period rates were reported around $ 13,000 per day.
The India to Far east market iron ore movement remained weak.
“The coal imports to India has picked up and more shipments expected in October”, said Capt. Reddy, MD of Vistaar Shipping Singapore, an experienced ship operator.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 26,601 per day , Panamax/$ 13,813 per day , Supramax/$ 15,678 per day and Handy size/$ 10,851 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 1.97 pct and closed at $ 13,627 per day (last week $ 13,363 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was down by 1.05 pct and closed at $ 11,350 per day (last week $ 11,470 per day). The S6 route likely to remain firm, whereas S7 routes is likely to be soft.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/$ 14,000 per day, Supramax/$ 14,000 per day , Handy size/$ 10,500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 87 vessels this week (last week 78 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/2, DBCT/17, Gladstone/21, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/39, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 38 vessels (last week 52 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 8-10 days.
The Brent crude oil prices dropped slightly and closed at $ 102.23 per barrel (last week $ 103.96 per barrel). Bunker prices almost remained at same levels and closed $ 643.50 pmt (last week $ 644.00 pmt) for IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 30th Sept 2011.
