THE COAL IMPORTS TO INDIA, OUT OF INDONESIA LIKELY TO PICK UP - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - The freight market continued the upward trend until midweek almost touching 2,000 points, however towards second half of the week the Cape index lost steam and closed 5.56 pct lower at 3,008 points and the BDI closed at 1814 points down by 1.30 pct. The Panamax and Supramax index gained by about 3 pct and closed at 1746 points and 1446 points respectively. The handy size index closed about 1 pct lower at 677 points.
The short period rates remained firm and Supramax vessels reported fixed around US$ 14,500 per day. Also the charter rates for Indonesia to India was firm with charter rates for vessels delivery SE Asia ranging from US$ 16,000-19,000 per day.
The Panamax short period rates were reported around US$ 14,000 per day.
“The India to Far East market iron ore movement remained weak. The coal imports to India out of Indonesia likely to pick up in next few weeks”, Says, Capt. Reddy, MD of Vistaar Singapore.
The average charter rates was at Cape / US$ 24,739 per day , Panamax / US$ 14,014 per day , Supramax / US$ 15,125 per day and Handy size / US$ 10,070 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 4.60 pct and closed at US$ 12,958 per day (last week US$ 12,387 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was up by 4.20 pct and closed at US$ 11,362 per day (last week US$ 10,904 per day). The S6 and S7 routes likely to be firm up next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape / US$ 16,000 per day, Panamax / US$ 14,000 per day, Supramax / US$ 13,500 per day , Handy size / US$ 10,250 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 60 vessels this week (last week 67 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/Nil, DBCT/19, Gladstone/16, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/21, Port Kembla/2 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 29 vessels (last week 28 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 8-10 days.
The Brent crude oil prices was almost at same levels and closed at US$ 112.12 per barrel (last week US$ 112.56 per barrel). Bunker prices was up and closed at US$ 674.50 pmt (last week US$ 668.00 pmt) for IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 16th Sept 2011.
