THE FREIGHT MARKET LIKELY TO BE FIRM NEXT WEEK - CAPT. REDDY
 COALspot.com - The freight market continued the upward trend during last week with BDI crossing 1,800 points and closing at 1,838 points up by 5.63 pct. The Cape index saw the biggest gain this week up by 7.05 pct and closing at 3,185 points. Panamax , Supramax and Handy size index were all up by about 2 pct.
The short period rates on Supramax reported around US$ 14,000 per day and trips via Indonesia to India also around US$ 14,000 per day.
“The India to Far east market was weak with not much iron ore exports. The coal imports to India also seemed bit slow and not many cargoes out of Indonesia”, says Capt. Reddy, Managing Director Singapore based ship operator, Vistaar Shipping.
According to vistaar shipping, The freight market likely to be firm Next week.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 26,463 per day , Panamax/US$ 13,534 per day , Supramax/US$ 14,649 per day and Handy size/US$ 10,139 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was slightly down by 0.72 pct and closed at US$ 12,387 per day (last week US$ 12,477 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was also down by 0.72 pct and closed at US$ 10,904 per day (last week US$ 10,983 per day). The S6 and S7 routes likely to be firm up next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 16,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,250 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 67 vessels this week (last week77 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/3, DBCT/19, Gladstone/14, Abbot Point/3, New Castle/26, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at 28 vessels (last week 30 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 8-10 days.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly up by 1.42 pct and closed at US$ 112.56 per barrel (last week US$ 112.65 per barrel). Bunker prices remained at same levels as last week and closed at US$ 668.00 pmt (last week US$ 663.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 9th Sept 2011.
