SUPRAMAX AVAILABILITY WAS TIGHT DUE TO UPCOMING RAMADAN HOLIDAYS
 COALspot.com - The financial markets have been in turmoil with all major stock exchanges down and uncertainty prevails. However the shipping market seemed to rebound with BDI up by 13.60 pct and closing at 1,462 points. The biggest gains was in Cape index which was up by almost 20 pct and closed at 2,220 points.
Panamax and Supramax index was up by about 6 pct and closed at 1,609 points and 1,338 points respectively. The handy size index was up by about 1 pct and closed at 648 points.
"The Supramax vessels availability was tight with many charterers looking for vessel to reach before Ramadan holidays". says Capt. Reddy, Md of Vistarr Shipping Singapore.
According to Vistaar Shipping, the Supramax charter for trip via Indonesia to India was around US$ 14,500 per day and short period charter rates were reported fixed around 15,000 per day for short period. Short period rates on Panamax were reported fixed around US$ 12,500 per day.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 15136 per day , Panamax/US$ 12871 per day , Supramax/US$ 13989 per day and Handy size/US$ 9552 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was up by 10.73 pct and closed at US$ 11,864 per day (last week US$ 10,714 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) was also up by 6.78 pct and closed at US$ 10,883 per day (last week US$ 10,192 per day).
The S6 and S7 routes likely to be firm next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 15,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia increased to 80 vessels this week (last week 79 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/13, DBCT/19, Gladstone/13, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/31, Port Kembla/9 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting increased to 42 vessels (last week 42 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag, Kandla and Paradip where waiting was around 7/8 days.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly up by 0.52 pct and closed at US$ 109.03 per barrel (last week US$ 108.46 per barrel). Bunker prices remained at same levels as last week and closed at US$ 636.50 pmt (last week US$ 639.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 19th August 2011.
