THE COAL PRICES ARE SOFTENING DUE TO LESS DEMAND - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com: The markets were down last week with BDI down by 6.63 points and closing at 1,353 points. The most affected was Cape index which was down by 9.31 pct and closing at 1,918 points and the next was Panamax index which was down by 6.30 pct and closing at 1,578 points. The Supramax and Handy size index were almost at same levels and was down only by about 0.45 pct.
The Supramax vessels were fairly holding up at around US$ 10,500-11,000 per day delivery Mid China. Period charter rates for Supramax around US$ 13,000 per day. Vessels opening EC India were seen fixed around US$ 8,000 per day and WC India around US$ 10,000 per day.
The iron ore prices seem to firming up steadily and over last two weeks the prices have gone up by about US$ 8 pmt and currently at US$ 174.10 pmt. The coal prices have been soft and the demand has slowed down slightly.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 11,502 per day , Panamax/US$ 12,603 per day , Supramax/US$ 13,292 per day and Handy size/US$ 10,280 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) was down by 2.80 pct and closed at US$ 9,495 per day (last week US$ 9,769 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) also softened by 3.03 pct and closed at US$ 8,844 per day (last week US$ 9,121 per day). The S6 and S7 routes likely to be steady next week.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 15,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 13,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 13,500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10,000 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia reduced to 66 vessels this week (last week 51 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/5, DBCT/15, Gladstone/6, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/37, Port Kembla/2 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting almost at same levels at 23 vessels (last week 22 vessels).
Waiting at Indian ports were normal about 2/3 days except for Vizag where waiting was around 7/8 days.
The Brent crude oil prices slightly down by 0.56 pct and closed at US$ 117.66 per barrel (last week US$ 118.33 per barrel). Bunker prices softened and closed at US$ 659.00 pmt (last week US$ 670.50 pmt) for IFO 380 CST ex Singapore on 15th July 2011.
