THE IRON ORE IMPORTS BY CHINA SEEMED TO SLOW DOWN - VISTAAR
 COALspot.com - The BDI was holding as previous week and was just up by 1 point and closed at 1424 points end of last week. The biggest gain was in the Cape size index which was up by 8.22 pct and closed at 1974 points and the biggest drop was in Panamax index which was down by 7.84 points and closed at 1764 points. The Supramax marginally up by 0.23 pct and closed at 1322 points and handy size down by 1.77 pct and closed at 721 points.
Towards end of last week the freights for Supramax in the Se asia firmed up a bit due to shortage of vessels. The freight levels expected to hold this week with all the futures up end of the week.
Supramax delivery Feast have been reported fixed around US$ 10000 per day for single trips. No Supramax period rate reported.
The iron ore imports by China seemed to slow down with the Supramax rates softening from India to far east and vessels were reported fixed around $ 9000-9500 per day. The sale of second hand of ships remained fairly good .
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 11571 per day , Panamax/US$ 14125 per day , Supramax/US$ 13818 per day and Handy size/US$ 10697 per day.
The supramax index in the far east (S6 route) was down by 0.86 pct and closed at US$ 10386 per day end of last week. The EC India/China (S7 route) also softened by 3.18 pct and closed at US$ 9900 per day (last week US$ 10225 per day). The S6 rates likely to be steady and S7 likely to be soft.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 15000 per day, Panamax/US$ 14000 per day, Supramax/US$ 13500 per day , Handy size/US$ 10500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia reduced to 70 vessels this week (last week 74 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/3, DBCT/14, Gladstone/14, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/34, Port Kembla/4 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting also reduced to 32 vessels (last week 36 vessels).
The Brent crude oil prices softened and dropped by 6.92 pct to US$ 105.42 per barrel (last week US$ 113.26 per barrel). Bunker prices also softened and closed at US$ 634.50 pmt (last week US$ 640.50 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 24th June 2011.
