THE PANAMAX WAS THE BIGGEST GAINER
 COALspot.com - The freight market appeared to recover slightly after the Easter holidays. However they market may not move up much and likely to maintain around same levels next week also.
The BDI and cape index was up by only about 1.5 pct and closed at 1269 points and 1564 points. The panamax was the biggest gainer with index up by 5.30 pct and closed at 1450 points. The Supramax and handy size index was slightly down by less that 1 pct and closed at 1390 points and 797 points.
The effect of new bulk carrier deliveries in the first quarter seems to be having a affect on the shipping market with about 20 million dwt being delivered and still quite a lot of new tonnage is yet to be delivered in the balance of 2011 and could be around 40-50 million dwt more. The scrapping has been relatively poor in the first quarter and has been only about 4 million dwt.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 6698 per day , Panamax/$ 11620 per day , Supramax/$ 14530 per day and Handy size/$ 11897 per day
The Supramax index in the far east (S6 route) softened further by 2.71 pct (down by 385 points) and closed at $ 13822 per day (last week $ 14207 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) also softened and was down by 3.96 pct (down by $ 558 per day) and closed at $ 13513 per day (last week $ 14071 per day). The S6 and S7 routes likely to be soft week also.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 16500 per day, Panamax/$ 14500 per day, Supramax/$ 14000 per day , Handy size/$ 11000 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia reduced to 39 vessels this week (last week 37 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/5, DBCT/17, Gladstone/4, Abbot Point/1, New Castle/9, Port Kembla/3 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting was at same levels as last week (last week 35 vessels).
The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was quite normal.
The crude oil prices slightly firmed up and closed at $ 125.95 per barrel (last week $ 124.04 per barrel). Bunker prices also softened and closed at $ 673.50 pmt (last week $ 672.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 29th April 2011.
