THE FREIGHT MARKETS LIKELY TO BE SOFT NEXT WEEK - VISTAAR SINGAPORE
COALspot.com - The freight market softened this week affecting all sectors with BDI down by 65 points (down by 4.10 pct) and closed at 1,520 points. The cape index was marginally down by 13 points and closed at 1,792 points. Panamax index was the most affected , down by 153 points (down by 7.36 pct) and closed at 1,925 points. The Supramax index also dropped by 92 points (down by 5.74 pct) and closed at 1511 points, where as the handy size was almost at same levels and closed at 786 points.
The Supramax vessels opening Far East /SE Asia region continued to see healthy levels and ships were fixed around $ 16,000 Shanghai/Rizhao range. The freight markets likely to be soft at least in the beginning of the week and may pick towards end of the week. Probably the effects of Japanese ports and crisis in Libya, Yemen , Syria and Middle east seems to be affecting the shipping market. However overall the sentiments are that the markets could be softening in the coming weeks.
The average charter rates was at Cape/$ 10,554 per day , Panamax/$ 15,463 per day , Supramax/$ 15,795 per day and Handy size/$ 11,774 per day.
The Supramax index in the far east (S6 route) softened further by 1.19 pct (down by 191 points) and closed at $ 15,391 per day (last week $ 15,991 per day). The EC India/China (S7 route) also continued to softened and was down by 3.84 pct (down by $ 600 per day) and closed at $ 15,008 per day (last week $ 15,608 per day). The S6 route is likely to continue to be steady/soft , whereas the S7 is likely soften further.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/$ 18,500 per day, Panamax/$ 16,000 per day, Supramax/$ 15,000 per day , Handy size/$ 11,250 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia almost at same levels at 84 vessels this week (last week 72 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/7, DBCT/21, Gladstone/12, Abbot Point/3, New Castle/34, Port Kembla/7 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting reduced to 39 vessels (last week 42 vessels).
The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was quite normal.
The crude oil prices continued to firm up and closed at $ 118.93 per barrel (last week $ 115.95 per barrel). Bunker prices also firmed up and closed higher at $ 657.00 pmt (last week $ 643 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 1st April 2011.
