THE FREIGHT MARKET SEEMS WILL BE FIRM FOR MARCH AND APRIL - VISTAAR
COALspot.com - The freight market continued to rise with the BDI crossing 1500 points and the cape size index up by 32 pct and all other segments also ending in positive. The Panamax index was up by 7 pct whereas the Supramax and handy size was up by 4 pct. The cape index saw the biggest gain with the average charter rate ending at US$ 11308 per day compared to US$ 5704 per day. The Supramax index in the feast and se asia was firm with vessels being fixed around US$ 17000 per day delivery Mid China.
“The market seems will be firm for March and April” Said Capt. Reddy, Director, Vistaar Shipping Singapore.
“However, the earth quake situation is likely to have a impact on the freight market and oil prices. Also other factors which could affect is talk about Korea Line redelivering quite a few vessels in the market and the Libya situation. The effect of New building vessels also will keep the market under pressure” he further added.
The average charter rates was at Cape/US$ 11,038 per day , Panamax/US$ 17,115 per day , Supramax/US$ 15,985 per day and Handy size/US$ 10,909 per day.
The Supramax index in the feast (S6 route) continued to be firm and was up by 11.55 pct (up by US$ 1,701 per day) and closed at US$ 15,973 per day (last week US$ 14,727 per day). The EC India/ China (S7 route) continued to softened and was down by 2.70 pct (down by US$ 466 per day) and closed at US$ 16763 per day (last week US$ 17,229 per day). The S6 route may continue to be firm, where as the S7 is likely to soften further.
The futures for three years (2011-2013) was at around Cape/US$ 19,000 per day, Panamax/US$ 16,500 per day, Supramax/US$ 15,000 per day , Handy size/US$ 11,500 per day.
The congestion in EC Australia almost at same levels at 81 vessels this week (last week 77 vessels). The vessels waiting at main coal loading ports were at Hay point/6, DBCT/22, Gladstone/14, Abbot Point/Nil, New Castle/38, Port Kembla/1 vessels. On the WC Australia iron ore vessels waiting reduced to 61 vessels (last week 58 vessels).
The waiting at Indian ports for coal vessels was quite normal.
The crude prices jumped sharply during the week , however showed signs of softening and closed at US$ 113.47 per barrel (last week US$ 115.78 per barrel). Bunker prices also firmed up during the week but closed lower US$ 638.50 pmt (last week US$ 638.00 pmt) for IFO 380 cst ex Singapore on 11th March 2011.
